New Uses AI to assist beyond our 5,000+ Visual Lexicon entries — composing a concise definition, pronunciation audio, and a two-image combo when needed.

Preview: click a word → panel with images, definition and audio.

How it works

  1. Install the extension from the store.
  2. Log in with your email (1-click magic link).
  3. Click any word on any site → the panel pops up. If the word isn’t in our 5,000+ set yet, AI kicks in to compose a definition, audio, and a two-image combo.

About AI results

  • When it’s used. AI is used only when we don’t have a curated entry yet, or to enhance it with a definition/audio/two-image combo.
  • Labeling. AI-generated parts are clearly labeled “AI” in the panel.
  • Quality & limits. While helpful, AI can make mistakes or be incomplete — especially with proper nouns or new slang.
  • Feedback. Use “Report” in the panel to flag an issue; we review and improve coverage continuously.

Permissions & Privacy

  • Access to selected text only for definitions and images.
  • No browsing history or full page content is stored.
  • When AI assist is used, only the selected word/phrase and minimal language context are sent to our servers and the AI provider to generate the response.
  • Saved words are tied to your account to sync across devices.

FAQ & Troubleshooting

The panel doesn’t appear when I click a word.

Check the basics first:

  • Make sure the extension is installed and enabled.
  • Refresh the page; some sites block overlays until reload.
  • Try clicking a plain word (not a link, button, or inside an input field).
  • Some sites prevent overlays (heavy iframes, canvas apps). Try another site to confirm it’s working.
  • If you run ad/privacy blockers, allowlist visuallexicon.org and the extension.
The panel opens but nothing loads (spinner forever).
  • Confirm you’re signed in (look for the account avatar or “Sign in” prompt).
  • Check your connection or VPN; strict networks can block requests.
  • Disable extensions that rewrite pages (content filters, script blockers) and try again.
  • Hard refresh the page (Windows: Ctrl+F5, macOS: Cmd+Shift+R).
I can’t log in / the magic link doesn’t arrive.
  • Confirm your email address has no typos.
  • Check Spam/Promotions. Add support@visuallexicon.org to contacts.
  • Some work/school filters block magic links. Try a personal network or ask IT to allow the email and our domain.
  • Magic links expire; request a new one and open it in the same browser profile where the extension is installed.
Audio won’t play.
  • Browsers may block autoplay with sound. Click the play icon in the panel to allow audio.
  • Check system volume and that the tab isn’t muted.
  • If it’s still silent, try another word; some entries may not have audio for all locales yet.
Images look blurry or fail to load.
  • Give it a second on slow connections—images load progressively.
  • If you’re zoomed in heavily, try 100% zoom to compare.
  • Corporate proxies/content filters can compress or block images. Try a different network or allowlist our domain.
  • Use “Report” in the panel if a specific image is broken or irrelevant.
“Sign in” loop / the panel keeps asking me to log in.
  • Ensure you’re using the same browser profile you used to sign in.
  • Allow cookies for visuallexicon.org. Blocking third-party cookies can prevent session restore.
  • Close all tabs, quit the browser completely, reopen, and try again.
Saved words aren’t syncing.
  • Click “Save” in the panel, then check My Account → Saved Words.
  • Confirm you’re signed in on each device with the same email.
  • If you just saved, wait a moment and refresh—sync is near-instant but not always immediate.
Does it work on every website?
  • Works on most text-based pages. Some pages (PDF viewers, canvas apps, certain iframes) may block overlays.
  • If a specific site blocks it, try selecting a different word or testing on a simpler article page.
Which browsers are supported?
  • Chrome: supported.
  • Microsoft Edge: supported (install from Microsoft Edge Add-ons in Edge).
  • Safari/Firefox: planned.
What data do you collect? Is it private?
  • We only read the text you select to show images/meaning/audio.
  • No browsing history or full page content is stored.
  • When AI assist is used, only the selected word/phrase and minimal language context are sent to our servers and the AI provider.
  • Saved words are tied to your account so they can sync across devices.
